he International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is being observed today across the world as a reminder to an attempt to build an international society free of drug abuse.

In Nepal also, various awareness raising programmes are being organised to mark this day which is actually a United Nations International Day against drug abuse and the illegal drug trade.

The day is observed annually since 1987 on 26 June, “to commemorate Lin Zexu's dismantling of the opium trade in Humen, Guangdong, just before the First Opium War in China.”

"Global Action for Healthy Communities without Drugs" is the theme of this year's world drug campaign.

Home Ministry in Nepal is all set to wrap up its week-long anti-drug abuse day by organizing different awareness-raising activities today.

The Home Ministry actually celebrated International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking from June 20 to June 26.
